What is Pilates?

Pilates is a wonderful low impact style of exercise where you develop strength, flexibility and endurance. It is used to strengthen the whole body by developing a strong torso, body centre or core for your legs, arms and head/neck to move from. It may look easy…..but trust us...you’ll be sweating and burning in muscles you thought you never had! It is a great way to regain strength after an injury or having a baby as a stepping stone to returning to sport and running again.

What is the difference between Pilates and Clinical Pilates

Clinical pilates is run by a Physio who can diagnose your injury and treat it with Clinical pilates, tailored to specific injuries and body parts. It’s different and safe to do even if you experience some pain, with the guidance of your Physio.

We take into consideration:

  • Your injury

  • Your pain

  • Your current strength

  • Your goals

It is safe to do even if you experience pain as it is under the guidance of your Physiotherapist and is tailored specific to your body and injury.

Your treatment is developed to take you from where you are now to achieving your life goals. Whether that be lifting your grandkids without back pain, running confidently post ankle sprain, recovering post birth, ACL rehab or improved postural strength to manage intense work from home schedules.

Clinical Pilates at Croydon Physiotherapy

Clinical Pilates trained physiotherapists will assess your injury, current strength and goals and provide 1:1 sessions tailored to you. Your session will involve a variety of equipment (including reformer and tower) and mat based exercises.

The advantage of using Pilates reformer and tower machines, is that we can get you exercising early post injury and often in a pain free environment. This means we can get you moving earlier and living the life you love sooner!

Is Clinical Pilates right for me?

Clinical Pilates is challenging for any person, any body and at any age.  Our clients are any age with no age limits, from our youngest sports stars to anyone who believes in living stronger and living older.  Clinical Pilates can be beneficial for a range of problems, including:

Do I need to have an injury to do Clinical Pilates?

Absolutely not. Clinical Pilates is a perfect inclusive environment to get moving……

….. If you are new to exercise and are wanting guidance to begin: we get you exercising and moving safely with confidence.

…….If you were previously a regular sport or fitness participator but COVID lockdown has caused an enforced break from exercise: we can get you started and assist injury prevention to help your return to sport and the gym.

…….if you are wanting to try reformer or fitness Pilates classes in the community and do not know where to start: we teach you what is really meant by “core muscles” and give you the knowledge on how to look after your body when you join a class.

What do I need to do for Clinical Pilates?

Wear some comfy clothes that enable you to move freely. Drink bottle. Gripper socks if you have - otherwise there’s plenty at the clinic to purchase. Otherwise we have non slip mats to use on the reformer.

Bring along some good energy and a smile!

We’ll have some fun while getting so much stronger!!
